What it is:

Commonly known as a sore throat. The back of your throat becomes inflamed and irritated, often making it painful to swallow. It's usually caused by a virus (like a cold) or bacteria (like strep). This can also be due to other ENT conditions.

Common treatment:

We evaluate the throat with visual examination and if needed in-office laryngoscopy. A culture may be obtained from the pharyngeal or tonsillar tissue as well as rapid Strep testing in office. Treatment will be based upon clinical examination and findings which can include but not limited to rest, increasing oral fluids, over-the-counter pain relievers (ibuprofen, acetaminophen. ect.), throat lozenges, and/or if caused by bacteria, antibiotics.
